W.O.W. - Word of The Week - HONEY

Honey

Hebrew #1706    dev-āsh

Definition: a sticky yellowish-brown fluid made by bees and other insects from nectar collected from flowers, eaten as a sweet food

“And you shall hear, O Yisra’ĕl, and shall guard to do, that it might be well with you, and that you increase greatly as Yahuah Elohim of your fathers has spoken to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.”
Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 6:3

“Sha’ul then said to Yonathan, ‘Explain to me what you have done.’  And Yonathan explained to him, and said, ‘I only tasted a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. See, let me die!’”
Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 14:43

“He eats curds and honey when He knows to refuse evil and choose the good.”
Yeshayah (Isaiah) 7:15

“And He said to me, ‘Son of man, feed your stomach, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I am giving you.’ And I ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.”
Yehezqĕl (Ezekiel) 3:3

“How sweet to my taste has Your word been, More than honey to my mouth!”
Tehillim (Psalms) 119:103

“And I went to the messenger and said to him, ‘Give me the little book.’ And he said to me, ‘Take and eat it, and it shall make your stomach bitter, but it shall be as sweet as honey in your mouth.’ And I took the little book out of the messenger’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.”
Ḥazon (Revelation) 10:9-10

As you read the title you saw the W.O.W, WOW indeed! While researching the word Honey I was in for a pleasant surprise. For one, I was amazed at the Hebrew letters, and their meanings.

The Hebrew letters are:

דבש- Dalet- Bet- Shin

Dalet means a/the door,

Bet means a/the house,

Shin means Shalom,

When you put it altogether it becomes, The Door to the House of Shalom

Curious. I had never thought of honey as being the door to the house of shalom, which I presume to be Yahuah’s house. Although it does seem logical now, considering that honey is portrayed in the Scriptures as something to be “compared” to the Torah of Elohim. As Psalms 19:7-11 says, the Torah of Yahuah, the witness of Yahuah, the orders of Yahuah, the command of Yahuah, the fear of Yahuah, and the right-ruling of Yahuah are even more valuable than gold, and sweeter than the sweetest honey on earth.

One of the scriptures above was Rev. 10:9-10. It says “the little book” was “as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.”  This passage brings to mind Ezekiel 3:3 (also listed above), it says that “the little book” was a scroll. Perhaps the passage means that when we eat or read the scriptures, it seems very sweet, so easy to act upon, but when we try to put it into action, it is very hard, and the “stomach” thinks it bitter.

It often seems so stress-free to follow Yahuah's command every day, constantly, when I am reading the Word. But as soon as I close my scriptures, it appears that I forget all about what I had read, until Yahuah brings a scripture passage or worship song up to my mind, then I think about it for the rest of the day. We must read scripture and apply it to our daily life, and act upon it. Think of His Word as sweet, or sweeter, as honey. Remember that goodness will come out of it. As honey is good for your body, so is the scriptures good for your soul!

Always remember that honey means the Door to the House of Shalom!

“The Torah of יהוה is perfect, bringing back the being;
The witness of
יהוה is trustworthy, making wise the simple;
The orders of
יהוה are straight, rejoicing the heart;
The command of
יהוה is clear, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of
יהוה is clean, standing forever;
The right-rulings of
יהוה are true, They are righteous altogether,
More desirable than gold, Than much fine gold;
And sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
Also, Your servant is warned by them, In guarding them there is great reward.”

Tehillim (Psalms) 19:7-11

Shalom,

ES
