W.O.W. - Word of the Week - ABOMINATION

Abomination

Hebrew #8441 -  to’eba

Definition: a disgusting thing, an abominable, wicked thing,

“‘And do not lie with a male as with a woman, it is an abomination… Thus the land became defiled, therefore I punished it for its crookedness, and the land vomited out its inhabitants… For whoever does any of these abominations, those beings who do them shall be cut off from among their people. And you shall guard My Charge, so as not to do any of these abominable laws which were done before you, so as not to defile yourselves by them. I am [Yahuah] your Elohim.’”

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 18:22, 25, 29-30

“And he did evil in the eyes of [Yahuah], according to the abominations of the nations whom [Yahuah] dispossessed before the children of Yisra’ĕl.”

Melaḵim Bĕt (2 Kings) 21:2

“Then I brought you into a garden land, to eat its fruit and its goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land and made My inheritance an abomination.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 2:7

“’Were they ashamed when they had done abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall. They shall stumble at the time I visit them,’ said [Yahuah].”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 6:15

“These six matters [Yahuah] hates, And seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, And hands shedding innocent blood, A heart devising wicked schemes, Feet quick to run to evil, A false witness breathing out lies, And one who causes strife among brothers.”

Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 6:16-19

“So He said to them, ‘You are those who declare yourselves righteous before men, but Elohim knows your hearts, because what is highly thought of among men is an abomination in the sight of Elohim.’”

Luqas (Luke) 16:15

“And there shall by no means enter into it whatever is unclean, neither anyone doing abomination and falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

Ḥazon (Revelation) 21:27

There’s a lot to be said about the word abomination. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the statement, “homosexuality is an abomination.” And it’s true, it is written above in Leviticus 18:22, but what is also an abomination is written in Proverbs:

“These six matters [Yahuah] hates, And seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, And hands shedding innocent blood, A heart devising wicked schemes, Feet quick to run to evil, A false witness breathing out lies, And one who causes strife among brothers.”

Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 6:16-19

So there’s a whole lot more than just homosexuality. But simply sinning against Yahuah’s instructions is an abomination. Taking the definition for the word ‘abomination’ from the scriptures, we find that anything Yahuah hates is an abomination.

I had shared this passage with a Christian friend, and they said, “So, He hates sin, but an abomination is something He really hates.”

I frowned, “No, I think if He hates it, He hates it, and it’s an abomination. There’s nothing that He really hates. There all abominations. ‘A lying tongue, hands shedding innocent blood…”

My friend thought about that and even remembered the last one before I said it. “And one who causes strife among brothers.”

In the Leviticus passage above, Yahuah says that the land Israel will inherit is vomiting out its previous inhabitants because of the abominations they have done on the land. And He says, “Don’t do these things lest the land vomit you out, too!”

But sadly they didn’t listen, and took part of all the abominations. They were not even sorry for what they did, as stated in Jeremiah 6:15:

“’Were they ashamed when they had done abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall. They shall stumble at the time I visit them,’ said [Yahuah].”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 6:15

We all know the story, they were cast out of the land because of their sins. And the truth is, that we all will be cast out of His presence because of our partaking in the abominations. But with the ultimate Sacrifice that Yahuah gives, Yahusha’s blood, we can be clean and enter His presence. So, take part in Yahusha, Him being the living word, and His blood that was shed for all mankind.
