The Forgotten Commandment: Why the Sabbath Still Matters

The Sabbath stands out as one of the most contentious commandments among all the teachings. Some individuals argue that this commandment is no longer relevant in today's context, believing that its significance has faded with time.

In contrast, many others continue to observe the Sabbath diligently, maintaining this practice out of a sense of reverence for their faith.

This brings us to a crucial question:

What do the Scriptures themselves convey regarding the Sabbath and its role in our lives today?

Established at Creation: In Genesis 2:2-3, we see a profound moment when Yahuah shaped the rhythm of time itself. As the seventh day dawned, He paused from His creative work, embracing rest. With a purposeful heart, He not only rested but also sanctified or set apart this day, elevating it above all others.

"And in the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made." (Genesis 2:2-3)

Repeated at Sinai: Exodus 20:8-11 gives us the fourth commandment:

"Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, יהוה blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart."

Not Just for Israel: The Sabbath stands as a profound sign of the covenant between Yahuah and His chosen people, as detailed in Ezekiel 20:12. It is a sacred observance that Yahushua honored, just as His apostles did, embracing its significance and sanctity.

Remarkably, in more than 24 languages, the word for Saturday retains echoes of its Sabbath origin, reminding us of the deeply rooted truth that persists across cultures.

Why It Matters: Keeping the Sabbath is not legalism—it's love. It is a weekly declaration that Yahuah is our Creator and King. We actually are confirming creation week by honoring this set-apart day! We are walking in His Image by doing what He did, creating for 6 days and resting on the 7th.

“If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath ‘a delight,’ the set-apart day of יהוה ‘esteemed,’ and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, then you shall delight yourself in יהוה. And I shall cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and feed you with the inheritance of Ya‛aqoḇ your father. For the mouth of יהוה has spoken!” (Isaiah 58:13-14).

Choose to walk set apart. Honor Yahuah in the rhythm He created. His commands are life-giving and His Sabbath is a delight.

"For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy..." (1 John 5:3)
